Description

Nankin brush pen and technical pen in off set paper 210 x 275mm

I confess I was not very happy with the result, but the Inktober is for this: daily improve the designs and techniques, is not it?

The hatching on Frodo's clothing is my favorite part of this piece. It's really nice to see the tones of his jacket up against the trousers, which you've accomplished by using just different line depths. Naturally as this is a silhouette, it is difficult to extract more details, but you've managed to convey a sense of despair with the rigid lines (e.g. his calf muscles look strained, gives impression that this is an onerous task.)

The background feels like it's overcrowding Frodo and it takes away a bit from the narrative value of it. Because there is not a lot of line variation in terms of thickness between the grassy foreground and the trees in background, and because both the background and the foreground are equally detailed in the disbursement of lines, the image feels a little flat. Maybe try different shading techniques on each respective plane so that they feel distinct, or minimize the background to abstract forms.

Awesome detail work, in any case.
